I am a social justice and event photographer. My work centers BIPOC, especially womxn, youth, and families of color. My current long-term project is a series portraying Womxn and Nonbinary Farmers of Color in Washington state, funded by the 2019 Northwest Journalists of Color Visual Storytelling Grant.

Diaz is a student at Hawthorne Elementary, her favorite foods are poke, sushi and octopus (tako). Her favorite hobbies are to sing, dance, play pretend/dress up, and make art.

Maceo will be in Kindergarten at Hawthorne Elementary this fall. His favorite foods are dungeness crab, shrimp tempura, and fruit. His favorite hobbies are playing with godzilla and dinosaurs, singing, basketball, and playing with his sis. Maceo has also been fighting Leukemia for over a year now and his parents couldn't be more proud of his strength and resilience.

Note: Maceo is wearing a mask in this photo because he is immunocompromised due to Leukemia. He has not been able to attend any BLM protests because of the risk of Covid infection. Diaz insisted on also wearing her mask to stand in solidarity with her little brother.

Lucia is five years old. She likes to run fast, dance ballet and tap, and do art. Jada is two years old. She likes to makes people laugh and wrestle with her big sister.

Julian (11), Ezekiel “Zeke” (5)

Rainier Beach, Seattle

Julian Lake - A proud 5th grader at Emerson Elementary, Julian loves playing baseball, basketball, riding his bike with friends, reading, and more recently, cooking. He has taken pride in being part of important demonstrations and protests at Standing Rock, Ferguson, Baltimore, Minneapolis and beyond. He's a loving big brother to his three younger siblings and an awesome son and grandson.

Zeke Hill-Halvorson - Zeke is a preschooler at Columbia City Preschool of Arts and Culture. He identifies as a ninja rockstar scientist and is always engaged in some sort of creative art or engineering project. He loves dancing, playing sports, and family movie nights. Some say he might be the superhero Lightning-Fast Man, although he is unable to confirm or deny that at this time. He uses his superpowers to bring healing justice to the demonstrations that his family attends.

Lauren (5), Lula & Teague (4)

Rainier Beach, Seattle

Lauren, Lula, and Teague believe that all people should be treated equally regardless of their skin color. They are of mixed race: Filipino and White. As a family, they are continuously learning about racism as it is an ongoing lesson. They have had frank conversations of why Black Lives Matter and why their white father has certain privileges their brown skin mother doesn’t have. They learn about social justice at their daycare at El Centro de la Raza in the International District. Since they were born, they have been marching for equality at the MLK marches, Pride marches, and Women’s marches. They enjoy camping, hiking, watching cartoons, and riding their scooters. For now, Lauren would like to be paleontologist, Lula would like to be an archaeologist, and Teague would like to be an astronaut...but first they have to learn how to read.
